World Firefox Day...

firefox

... is coming. Friends of the Fox unite. Stay tuned. Spread the world.

The Miller Way

millerway.jpg

Poke has recently produced a property for Miller called the Miller Revue. It's a look at "making it easy" - taking everyday situations with a twist - illustrators and animators including Han Hoogerbrugge , Mr Bingo, and Joel Veitch ( and more) were comissioned to develop each piece.

Lots of interactive fun - check it out...

Ashley says: I would have liked to have a video "scrubber" so I can play back the video at my own speed but it's still a satisfying experience watching stuff catch on fire or explode.

XPlanet is here!

xplanet_bb.jpg

Soap Creative have just launched X Planet, a Google Maps powered X-Men community site to promote the film release of X-Men: The Last Stand.

The key element is the integration of Google Maps within X Planet's interface, enabling users to move around the world and into any location within it - right down to street level. Users are able to develop mutant profiles and "pin" themselves to any location, which can be found by other site visitors. They're also able to include a link to their personal website or blog within their profile, and add other users to a planet-wide "buddy list".

The "Mutant of the Day" feature, direct linking to profiles and a MySpace/Blog badge creation tool ensure that the site generates that sought after "community" aspect.

X Planet steers away from traditional online campaigns that are competitive in nature, such as entering first, collecting puzzles and solving problems to win. Instead it encourages the audience to actively share, rather than compete with other users to create interactivity with each other and the movie.

Beyond the networking features, content from the first two X Men movies, and behind-the-scenes material from the latest one, will be planted around X Planet following launch, further encouraging people to explore and discover.

Personally (as someone who worked on it's initial conception) I'm pretty happy with the end result with only a few tweaks form the initial concept. It's also great to see our idea embraced by Fox in the US rather then being reduced to a small local initative.

OneShow Interactive Winners

The OneShow winners were announced on Friday night, and it would appear it was a tough competition this year, with only 60 pencils handed out. (I think this is lower than usual?) Over the next week, anyone that has a OneShow winner or indeed a finalist, please send it in to us.

For a list of the winners, click here

On a local note Australia did it tough once again :

A little disappointed we didn't achieve a pencil for Samsung, but hey the work we were up against in that category was phenomenal !

Clio Finalists 2006

clio_logo.gif

Australia has managed just one finalist in this years Clio Internet Awards. Again we've kept our head high in the other categories so it's not a total loss.

Congrats go to Tribal DDB for their McDonalds site. Let's hope it brings home a gold.

I can't see any NZ finalists so we aren't that bad :)

B3ta Reinvents the Banner Ad

goatse-banner.gif

With consumer created content this weeks biggest buzz word I thought this was quite fitting.

From b3ta "Banner ads don't work. Everyone ignores them. So let's save the online advertising industry and reinvent the damn things. Show us the kind of web advertising that would make you click..."

MINI video viral

glue London create personalised video viral campaign for MINI.

glue London have created a viral campaign for MINI to tie in with the launch of the new MINI Cooper S JCW GP Kit. Using video application combined with a remarkable level of personalised content, the viral has been created to showcase the new model.

With tongue firmly in cheek the concept for the viral centres around the idea that men aren't real men anymore due to the rise of the metrosexual. Users are asked to visit the website http://www.aveaword.com/ where they can nominate friends who may be demonstrating unmanly characteristics. The unsuspecting friend then receives a personalised email from their friend advising them that 'someone wants to ave a little word'. At the website they get a personal video message from a character who seems to know a lot about them including their job, girlfriend's name and most importantly their worst crimes against mankind. They are encouraged to 'sort themselves out' and are encouraged to enjoy the visual feast of the MINI Cooper S JCW GP Kit model for inspiration.

Webby Awards.

The webby's are a combination of judges votes on one hand an peoples votes on the other. It's really good because it's about the online community as distinct from awards which tend to apply the analogue judging to digital some of the time.

The winners here.

There's a huge range of work, and all generally good work. Check it out.

(btw unashamed plug - Poke seems to do quite well we got two this year, and a couple last year as well...)

I have returned from D&AD and letting you know the team will endevor to post up as many of the shortlisted entries as we can in the next few weeks. I've also posted a few photos which show the sheer scale of the event.

While there were no Aussie noms or in book for online Campaign Brief reports a record 7 noms for Aussie entries in D&AD in the other catagories. Although there's an interesting discussion going on about some of the nominations.

Cyber Won Report

Now I'm not exactly sure on the due diligence of this report but it's pretty sad to see Australia not even in the top 20 countries for Interactive. Where as we are 5th for direct.

But hey at least New Zealand didn't beat us. Phew! Let's make it Australia's goal to at least break the top 20 in 2006.
